      It’s odd in that they apply to your combined total tax bill. It’s usual however that your employed job is *generally* taxed correctly so in a combined tax bill you are normally paying just the tax on the other income.

    Thank you for this! What about when the other scenario, the director pays for some business expenses and then adds them as DLA on the accounts as the company doesn’t have the funds to paid them back yet? Will it have any tax implications? Loved your content, easy subscribe! Thank you.

    what about the non-residents? We don't need national insurance for example, do we have to pay it? do we have personal allowance? regardless, can the company not pay anything and keep the money there? If I only earn money in a single month and the rest have 0 income, how does it work?

      This one is probably a short series of videos to explain I’m afraid! There are too many variables to explain how it might work in a comment sorry! You have to consider the tax residency of both company and director/ shareholder and it all interacts differently.

    Great videos. Thank you. I've got a strange scenario. I quit my job in february and go self-employed. I also purchase a second-hand van in february for £15k cash. Because I only have two months of work in that tax year, how or what can I claim for regarding the cost of the van? Let's say I make £4k in february and march and spent £15k on the van, for example. Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work.

    • @HeelanAssociates
      @HeelanAssociates 4 дня назад

      Oddly the two months doesn’t change the way it works. So it’s likely you would just have a tax loss (depending how the van was funded) to bring forward or even use against other income. It’s hard to describe the various scenarios in a comment here.

    New sub here, apreiceate your videos and have watched all I can that's relevant to myself. Actually watching from Thailand. We are strongly considering moving back to the UK but when I looked at what tax I would have to pay I jumped out of my seat lol. Do you have any experience with Forex trading? I'm a Day trader and take 2 + trades per Day so it seems based on frequency I would have to go self employed and pay 50% tax. Rather than a fixed capital gains tax of 20%. Maybe I'm wrong but this is the conclusion I have come to . Although on the brokers website it states CFD trading is subject to capital gains . If You have any knowledge on this then pretty please could you make a video on the matter...?

    • @HeelanAssociates
      @HeelanAssociates 23 дня назад

      Glad you enjoy the vids! Oddly we avoid talking about forex as it’s not an area we specialise in. However, when it comes to tax it’s normally down to whether something is considered a ‘trade’. If it is you have income tax. There are several ‘badges’ of a trade to consider to figure out it you are trading. Frequency is likely to come into it as a factor. If not it’s effectively investment activity you the capital gains rules apply (and are lower rates). This may help www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/business-income-manual/bim20205

    • @HeelanAssociates
      @HeelanAssociates 24 дня назад

      Its a tough one to answer because it depends on your total earnings. At time of writing NI is down to 6%, but if you were to hit 40% tax rate you need more. There isn't a simple answer I'm afraid on this one, it's more just being aware of what could happen. The key action is early prep of your tax return each year to understand if there is anything to pay.

Your videos have been so helpful in getting my head around everything and can't believe how much I've learnt just from your videos l. So thank you. I have a quick question on transferring assets and can't seem to find the answer anywhere online. We supply and install kitchens and bathrooms as well as a great deal of other interior works and so looking to transfer over our equipment and tool (of which there's a great deal and some pretty new and expensive) I was looking at doing this transaction via a directors loan account. The Answer I can't seem to get anywhere is how to allow for depreciation of these tools? Is it as simple as researching the secondhand market value via ebay etc.? Or is there a rule of thumb or allowance involved? Hope you can help.. thanks in advance

    • @HeelanAssociates
      @HeelanAssociates 24 дня назад

      Glad you found the videos useful! This one is difficult to answer here as there are a few ways of doing it, and there are tax consequences to what you might do. If you do what you are suggesting, usual practice would be estimate of market value using as you say, ebay or similar for comparable pricing.

    Very little incentive to start and run a company in the UK. Bearing in mind all the negatives of running your own company like lack of holidays, 100 hour weeks etc etc. Better off being employed as there is not enough reward for the risk and effort it takes to start and run a company. Governments have eroded the benefits available then wonder why we have poor economic growth.

    • @HeelanAssociates
      @HeelanAssociates 24 дня назад

      I think there are valid points here, although I don't think they apply specifically to limited companies, I think you could make the argument for self-employed/partnerships as well. Being in business in your own right is often not the 'dream' it may appear!

      @@HeelanAssociates Doesn’t seem right to me. Surely government should be encouraging and rewarding business owners so that they have reason to grow and expand their businesses. You should investigate whether this will be the next action for you www.gov.uk/government/publications/strike-off-a-company-from-the-register-ds01

    Hi Dan, what would be a reasonable cost (to get a rough idea) for the registers for a single owner limited company?

    • @HeelanAssociates
      @HeelanAssociates 24 дня назад

      Tough to say as everyone charges differently depending on the format and how old the company is. To give you a ballpark, for a simple new ish limited, we are around £100+VAT.

    Hi Dan, seems I’m sole trader gardener and have some regular clients, so e.g my regular Tuesday job mileage is not deductible, like the doctor’s regular visits to the hospital from the video? However one off jobs are? This is how I’ve filed my claim to date. Really enjoy your vids.

      Hi Noah, You *might* find it could be tax deductible, all depends if your trade is truly 'itinerant'. However what you describe is certainly the more cautious approach, there are many tax court cases arguing both ways.

    Hello I am French, I am located in France, and I created a Ltd to sell on Amazon UK, but I don't understand why since I thought it was free? and yet I receive letters maybe once a month from the IKA government and now they are asking me for money even though I have not made any sales I have to pay to close this business because I don't use it? Is it possible to change my bank card number and also my postal address?

      Hi thanks for taking the time to comment. I think with this one there are just too many issues and further questions needed to be able to provide value in a comment here sorry.
